We grind by hand, our own language

humming beneath plaster, sounding like colliding voices

pieces of me calling out on repeat, tapestry in postponement

the last stitch incomplete

seeing her round the corner, raspberries breathing pink air

blue footed like china luminescent in spring water

her eyes hazelnuts over cream, bore into me

we grind by hand, our own language

discovered intimates beneath tables

swapping lace work, scuffing soles

you come on your almond knees, bold and fat cheeked

moss, ivy and peat through high headed daisies

breathing deep whistling distance

keep still, as hush of light rain mists

like sitting children gathering silver, grow vociferous

look

resting on clasped fingers

the turnover of keeping, your strengthening faith

furnishing with still grace, as no-one could contain

the descending stone of woman’s will

but you who held up the world

with one deft movement

a silhouette among gouache doves

rendered in raven, as lovely as permitted

sung by myth and fable, beyond this plain place

where such is the drift of pirouette dream

beholding slim waisted girls gathering fruit

staining their wet mouths in ripened eagerness

The images that the opening lines evoke are delicious yet so disturbing. Then the unfolding strength of the female in the poem oozes out right down to “staining their wet mouths in ripened eagerness” I could pick out these words and eat them with all the sweet and sourness they promise. – Sol

  2. First of all mastery with words. Just takes your breath away. I just wrote a cloud poem this morning and that one phrase “drifting pirouette dreams” summed up my whole piece. Not really, but you are so incredible at conveying things succinctly. And beautifully, I might add. Happy Sunday.

  3. This hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s fantastic and your words seem to sear right off the page!

    Yum.

  5. Bjorn my friend – I have read some of your poems of emotion and felt exactly that way – maybe sometimes we need to express pain as a beautiful thing to honor the feeling that first made pain possible.

  6. Beauty be found in anything if we look hard enough. Pain-edged beauty ? Exquisitely painful 🙂

  7. Jesus. What can I say in response to this? Seriously? Just keep writing, C. I’ll just… erm… keep sitting here feeling insanely jealous that I’m not as masterful with words as you are.

  8. How true…that our loves are not always on the same page and at times difficult release, even when it’s apparent we should. The heart, indeed has a mind of it’s own. Hope you are well C.ღ

  9. Bollocks. You are. Tati is MORE masterful than both of us at words and she writes them in lots of different languages better than naive born so she’s just alien in how smart and creative she is, but you my friend you are an ARTIST never forget the worth of that, I would love to have your gift of art.

  10. I had to catch up on you a few days back, been away. Think I read about 8 poems or so, reread so much it took like an hour.. Lol..and thank you for asking, I’m OK. Had a falling out with a friend that really didn’t appreciate or value our friendship as much as I do. Left me sad, but its better than feeling unimportant and resentful all the time. OK now that I spilled my guts on wp I think I’ll shut up now..Lol
    Be well Candice ❤

  11. I’ve done my neck in carrying heavy box I think  and am lying upside down trying to make the pain go away. blah so excuse weird replies I think you speak another language the language of ART

  12. Another wow escaped my otherwise closed mouth! 😉 Today was an odd day thus far, feelings both high and low and you are ALWAYS among the high feelings that’s just how you are, you bring me hope in your tenderness and your friendship.

  13. Finally did and chiro says it’s a ‘bit buggered’ ha ha I succumbed and took pain killers because the pain was just making me seize up and that worked really well so I feel a bit better hopefully it can be fixed 🙂 Thank you for your kindness my friend. BTW I really meant it … you always put yourself down do you know that? You’re as bad as me sometimes! And you have absolutely NO reason to because you’re massively talented and I’m by no means the only one who thinks so. Tati is incredibly talented, would she really want to work with someone if they were not equally talented? I would have to say impossible she would not, so that tells you everything right there. It also is worth noting that your art is so unique and addictive people absolutely adore it, I hope you always remember that and never sell yourself short. I know I’m a hypocrite as I do it all the bloody time but seriously I am allowed to tell you that! I know you well enough to know you must have faith in yourself because so many others do and you must keep going because your work is so high quality and beloved, you are so much more than ordinary you have NO idea how much more. xo

  14. Dearest one, I wish you’d emailed me and let me know what was going on? I am always here if you want to (candicelouisa@rocketmail.com) I totally get the falling out with a friend thing as you know, and it is AWFUL perhaps the worst so I am very, very sorry that happened it is horrible and I wish you healing and please know this is no reflection of you – I know we’ve talked about this before but it’s worth repeating because it’s so easy to forget and blame yourself – so never forget – just because someone leaves doesn’t mean you deserved it. BIG HUG and I’m here – c x

  15. Thank you so dear heart…your words mean the world to me. Sorry for not responding sooner, have been bedridden the last few days with GI issues. Hope you know how special you are to me.❤

  16. Never apologize. I get GI things I hope you feel better it’s always so hard, please get well my friend and take good care of yourself. You are special to me also and I’m not simply echoing your words I mean that and I cherish you xo
